The Netherlands

BEAU-TI-FUL DAY! Sunny, warm... gorgeous!
The kids went to school and Auntie & I enjoyed the peace and quiet.
Had several cups of coffee (Auntie can't function without coffee) and a Dutch treat.
The Dutch eat cake (the large ones) but most of the time they eat "gebakjes", which are tiny cakes, and they buy a variety, so every guest can choose the one they like best.
Next Sunday - April 30th - is Queens Day in the Netherlands. It's a celebration of Queen Beatrix's birthday.

Anyway, as Orange is the family name of the Dutch Royals, everyone dresses up in orange, houses and streets are decorated with orange flags and balloons, aaaand they have tiny cakes with orange icing. This one is called a "tompouce". Two layers of dough, sort of custard cream in between, orange icing on top, decorated with whipped cream and red/white/blue sprinkles. Folks - let me tell you, this is YUMMY! I hope I can eat more of them when I'm at mom Ingrid's house!

After school we decided to take advantage of the wonderful weather and went looking for the best place to take a pic with the Leimuiden-sign on it.
There are several roads leading to Leimuiden, but none of them had a great view. So we chose the best, which is the one below. It's also the most "country, farmlife" entry of Leimuiden, leading up from a road that goes through farmland. All the other roads are busy and have ugly buildings and traffic signs on the side of the road.

That's all for today folks! This is Lord Buggie - signing off
