Sint Nicolaas
It’s here again, St. Nicholas Day. Even Google says so 🙂
As much as I love this Dutch special day, it’s a stressful time. Didn’t I forget to buy a present for someone? Or – even worse – WHAT shall I buy?
We’re spoiled. If we see something we like and it’s not too expensive, we buy it. And when it comes to Birthdays or St. Nicholas Day, we have no wish list.
But, as always, I managed to find presents for everyone and had fun searching for that special thing that the receivers won’t expect, but I know they’ll love it.
Time to go to bed now (1 AM). Office day tomorrow and at 6 PM we’re expected at my brother’s & SIL’s house. They’ve prepared food for all of us and I think we may look forward to meeting St. Nicholas in person… Very exciting, especially for my two nephews (5 and 1,5 years old) who still ‘believe’ 🙂
One of the customs is to leave your shoe at the hearth, with carrots and some hay for St. Nicholas’s horse. As a thank you, his helper – Black Pete – replaces the carrots with chocolate figures or some other candy.
So… while I’m singing Sinterklaas Kapoentje, gooi wat in m’n schoentje here’s hoping for some goodies…
Thanks for the beautiful shares.
